Showcasing Sustainable Tourism Growth and Global Partnerships
ZATEX 2026 officially opened at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, Zambia
LUSAKA, Zambia – June 4, 2026 – The Zambia Travel Expo (ZATEX) 2026 has officially opened at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, bringing together tourism stakeholders from across Zambia, Africa, and key international markets. The annual tourism trade exhibition, organised by the Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA), runs from 4 to 6 June and is expected to further strengthen Zambia's position as a leading tourism destination on the continent.
This year's edition is being held under the theme "Building Sustainable and Authentic Tourism Through Partnerships," highlighting the importance of collaboration in driving tourism growth, investment, and long-term sustainability.
According to Acting ZTA Chief Executive Officer Abigail Shansonga, participation targets for the expo have already been exceeded, demonstrating growing confidence in Zambia's tourism sector and increasing interest from both local and international industry players.
The three-day event is expected to attract more than 1,500 participants, including over 100 exhibitors and approximately 35 international hosted buyers representing major tourism source markets such as the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, China, Japan, and several African nations.
The first two days of the expo are dedicated to business-to-business engagements, investment discussions, networking opportunities, and knowledge-sharing sessions designed to foster meaningful partnerships across the tourism value chain. The event also features participation from 24 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from Zambia and other African countries, providing a platform for emerging tourism businesses to connect with international buyers and investors.
A key component of ZATEX 2026 is the hosted buyer programme, which remains central to ZTA's strategy of linking local tourism operators with global distribution networks. Through these connections, the agency aims to increase international visitor arrivals, boost tourism spending, and attract greater investment into Zambia's tourism industry.
The expo will conclude on 6 June with a Consumer Day, opening its doors to the public and giving Zambians an opportunity to explore travel products, tourism experiences, and holiday packages from destinations across the country.
As Zambia continues to position itself as a competitive and sustainable tourism destination, ZATEX 2026 serves as an important platform for fostering partnerships, promoting authentic travel experiences, and driving the future growth of the nation's tourism sector.
